Event details
Join us for a timed 5k, casual fun run/walk, scavenger hunt, face painting, raffles and more! All proceeds benefit The Cure Starts Now to fund pediatric brain cancer research in honor of Sophie, Elena, Cece, Jack, Lauren, Wyatt, Erin, Sarah, Reese, and all children battling cancers.
Sophie’s Angel Run has been a staple of the West Side of Cincinnati since 2007. The 5K Run/Walk takes place in Bridgetown, OH and annually attracts thousands of families, friends and runners.
The Meinhardt Family originally started the event after losing their daughter Sophie to a rare and aggressive brain tumor. The community rallied behind them in order to honor Sophie and raise money for medical research and educational scholarships. In 2021 the campaign was able to raise over $85,000 which benefitted Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and $5,000 in scholarships to students of several local catholic schools.

Sophie never stopped moving during her 18 months on earth. One of her favorite things to do was to ride in the double jogging stroller with her big sister Mia while their Daddy ran. In 2022 the event has been renamed “The Angel Run” and event coordination turned over to the families of The Cure Starts Now. The Meinhardt family is still be involved and want to ensure the event can continue for years to come as it provides so much value to the community and the beneficiaries.

Below is what you will get when you reach your fundraising goals. Individuals that raise over $2,500 will be contacted by a staff member directly to discuss their incentive options!
Fundraising prizes must be picked up the day of the event unless you sign up for virtual registration. Levels are cumulative up to one of each item for each tier raised. We reserve the right to make substitutions based on item availability. For more sweet merch to show off your support be sure to visit the merchandise tent on race day!
Why We Fight
Sophie’s Angel Run was founded in 2007 in memory of Sophia Grace Meinhardt. Sophie was an energetic little girl who brought a smile to everyone’s face. In her honor, Sophie’s Angel Run was established to help change the outcome of children diagnosed with brain tumors through pediatric brain cancer research.
This year, we are honoring children and families alongside Sophie who have also been affected by pediatric brain cancer. No family fights alone, and together, we are determined to find The Homerun Cure™.
The Cure Starts Now was started in honor of 6-year-old Elena Desserich, a Cincinnati girl who battled a rare, aggressive form of brain cancer known as DIPG. Today, The Cure Starts Now Foundation has over 40 chapters in three countries and is the only cancer foundation dedicated to finding the Homerun Cure™ for cancer by focusing on one of the rarest, most aggressive forms of cancer. Believing in more than just awareness, The Cure Starts Now has funded over $30 million in cancer research, resulting in over 135 cutting edge research grants in 17 countries since 2007.
